Coffee Bag Buying Guide
Specifying custom printed coffee bags: one-way degassing valves, foil barrier linings, kraft options, zippers, MOQ and lead times. Factory-direct guide.
Coffee is one of the least forgiving products to package: roasted beans keep degassing CO₂ for days, and oxygen, moisture, and light each steal aroma. A coffee bag is therefore a barrier structure first and a marketing surface second. This guide covers the decisions that matter when ordering custom coffee packaging from us. Options below reflect what we produce; confirm current details and pricing with our team.
1. The one-way degassing valve is not optional for fresh-roast
Seal freshly roasted beans in a plain bag and it inflates or bursts; leave a hole and oxygen gets in. A one-way degassing valve lets CO₂ escape without letting air back in. It is the standard solution for any coffee sold within days to weeks of roasting. Valves can be mounted centered or toward a corner; tell us your filling process (manual or machine) and we will match the placement.
2. Barrier layers: foil-lined vs. kraft
| Structure | Best for | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Foil-lined laminate | Whole beans, long shelf life, aroma retention | Highest barrier to oxygen, light, and moisture; opaque, so the print carries the design |
| Kraft exterior + barrier inner | Natural/organic positioning, lighter roasts | Warm, tactile look on the shelf; barrier depends on the inner layer chosen |
| Printed film laminate | Ground coffee, shorter distribution windows | Full-bleed glossy or matte graphics; lighter barrier than foil |
Our coffee packaging range covers foil-lined and kraft pouches — the same photo gallery shown on the homepage is the real production output.
3. Closures and formats
- Resealable zipper — the default for retail bags 250 g and up; customers expect it.
- Tear notch + heat seal — for portion packs, drip bags, and food-service sizes.
- Stand-up base — self-supporting on retail shelves; see our stand-up pouches page.
4. Printing and finish
We print up to multi-color flexographic and gravure on our lines. For coffee specifically: matte finishes photograph well on kraft; gloss with metallic tones suits dark, premium blends. Send vector artwork with Pantone references where brand colors must match — coffee branding lives or dies on consistent color across roast-level variants.
5. MOQ, lead time, and how to order
- MOQ: custom printed coffee bags start at around 5,000 units per design (see our general buying guide for why cylinders drive this).
- Lead time: typically 7–15 days in production depending on specification and quantity, plus transit.
- Sampling: trial runs are supported before you commit to volume.
